Minutes of the Squash Executive Committee Meeting on 12th July 2021

1 Attendance - Marc Shipley, Mandy Forster, Kevin Forster, Tracey Coats, Mick Barnes, Neil Woodward

2 Apologies - Ian Davies

3 Minutes of the Previous Meeting – Minutes of the Meeting 15th June 2021 agreed.

4 Matters Arising

4.1 Northumbria Squash update

  • Marc reported the Team Events dates post-19th July have been sent out by Dave Barnett, matches will be at various clubs, but not at our club.
  • Marc to ask members who showed interested in these events to progress their participation themselves.

4.2 Team Matches with Westoe Squash Club

  • Marc confirmed matches arranged beginning Wednesday 28th July, teams to be finalised.

4.3 England Squash (ES) update

  • No update expected until nearer 19th July but it is likely squash playing and use of facilities will resume as normal.

4.4 Reopening of the Squash club

  • The Committee agreed to re-open the club as normal from 19th July but with reminders to members as follows:-
  • Continue to use hand sanitiser
  • Continue to sanitise doors and balcony rails
  • Wear a mask if preferred
  • Do not wipe hands down the walls
  • Restrict use of the showers to 2 at a time and a maximum of 6 in the changing room continuing to maintain social distancing
  • No Guests restriction to remain in place until at least September

4.5 Enhancement of Wazygose Boldon Squash Website

  • Marc reported this is still being progressed with the Wazygoose administrator, Wayne Easthaugh.
  • Kevin stated he is to ask Wayne about fixing the override problem on Court 4.

4.6 Defibrillator

  • Kevin explained that England Squash has a deal with a firm to supply a defibrillator at a cost of £725 + VAT.
  • The Committee agreed the Club Executive Committee should be asked to buy one outright without further delay.

4.7 Subscriptions 2021/22

  • The Committee agreed; as a result of the lengthy periods the club was either closed or restricted during lockdown; to reduce membership fees to £5 for all members who paid in full from September 2020.
  • Juniors will pay £1.
  • New members who joined from 17th May will pay £65 continuing membership
  • Invitations will go out at the end of July as subscriptions can be made 1st to 31st August at the discounted rates.
  • From 1st September the fee will revert to £75 for continuing or new members.
  • Marc to liaise with Wayne about the Concessionary categories.
  • Mandy to issue subscription notice via Wazygoose once the Concessionary categories are in place.

4.8 Squash Contribution to Club

  • The Committee discussed at length the financial contributions made to the Club prior to, and during, lockdown and believe this needs to be revisited.
  • The Committee acknowledged that, at face value for many of our members, there appears to be disparity between what is contributed and what benefits the squash club gains.
  • Marc agreed to look further at the Club expenditure and report back to the Committee.

4.9 Club Executive Committee

  • Marc reported that the Squash Committee’s concerns about Executive accountability and clarity over Executive decisions have been raised and will continue to be progressed by the Squash representatives at each Executive meeting.
  • Marc reported that the Club has paid twice for cleaning in April and a refund from South Tyneside Council is expected shortly.

5 AOB

  • Kevin explained that emergency LED lights are to be purchased at a discounted rate.
  • Kevin proposed that the Squash Leagues resume from 19th July-1st September; players to remain in current leagues; previous scores be wiped and restart from 19th July.
  • The Committee agreed unanimously.
