Minutes of the Squash Executive Committee Meeting held on 11th December 2023

1 - ATTENDANCE

Marc Shipley, Mandy Forster, Kevin Forster, Tracey Coats, Mick Barnes, Ian Davies, Russell Hughes, Anita Hammond

2 - APOLOGIES

3 - MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

• Minutes of the Meeting 13th November 2023 agreed.

4 - MATTERS ARISING/ACTION POINTS

4.1 - Action Point Update:

• 4.4 Marc (16/10/23) - glass court quote never received, agreed no further action

• 4.4 Marc & Kevin (13/11/23) – storage in Men’s Changing Room being progressed

4.2 - Winter Teams 2023/2024

• Marc reported fixtures now finished for 2023.

o 1st Team could be in play-offs (third top team v third bottom of Division above)

o Hoping teams can consolidate their positions at the end of the season

4.3 - Dashboard

• Marc reported that £1481.25 has been transferred to the Treasurer for court bookings and £479.75 for memberships.

o Membership 162

o Squash account remains healthy

4.4 - Squash club maintenance/improvement

• Kevin reported that Colin Dumble has replaced 4 tiles and necessary boarding in the Men’s showers, for which the Committee expressed their gratitude.

• Kevin reported that SGS has been contacted regarding a leaking radiator valve in the Ladies Changing Room, however the earliest call-out is 18th December.

4.5 - Club Handicap Competition

• Marc thanked everyone involved in making this year’s competition successful.

o Mick reiterated how well organised it had been.

o Marc reported that the successful bidders have received their winnings.

4.6 - Team Challenge 2023

• Challenge begins tonight, 11th December, continues Wednesday 13th December, Finals on Friday 15th December

• Buffet being provided for Friday evening

o Team contribution £5 for Mon & Wed only, not Friday

4.7 - Club Executive Committee Feedback

• Meeting scheduled for tonight, 11th December.

5 - AOB

• Kevin advised the Committee of a letter Neil Woodward has submitted to himself, the Squash Secretary and also the Chairman, in which he expresses thanks for another successful Handicap Competition but also makes suggestions he believes may help the Handicap in future.

o Neil proposes reducing the points to 11 rather than 15;

o Also proposes a best-of-five format

o The Committee had a quick discussion and believe there may be merit in changing to 11 points but not playing 5 games.

o The Committee agreed that the proposal should be given greater consideration when preparing for the 2024 Handicap Competition.

o ACTION Mandy – respond formally to Neil.

• Kevin reported the problem of the ‘bouncy’ floor in the glass corridor between courts 1&2 and courts 3&4 that needs urgent attention.

o ACTION Kevin – to undertake the work necessary under the floor to secure it

o ACTION Marc – to contact Fulwell Ceilings to replace the ceiling in the downstairs corridor once Kevin has completed the work.
