Team Squash End of Season Review 2013/2014

It has been another successful season for our teams in the Northumbria County Leagues.

Highlight was Men’s 1st team, who achieved a league and cup double, winning the Premier Division and Northumbria Cup. The team was unbeaten all season, with Matty Harding also unbeaten all season, Andy Scott losing just once and Liam Gutcher picking up the player of the Division Award. Gary Candlish, Cai Younger, and Craig Dowie were the other nominated players and Alex Robertson, Michael Mattimore and Neil Mason also helped towards the success.

Men’s 2nd team finished 6th in the Premier Division, meaning we will (for the 3rd season running) have 2 teams in the top Division next season. Men’s 3rd team finished 4th in Division 1, having been in contention for promotion for most of the season. In Division 2, Junior 1 finished 6th.

Having been relegated last season, Men’s 4th team finished runners up in Division 3 and will be promoted back to Division 2. Conversely, Men’s 5th team (having been promoted last season) finished bottom of Division 3 and unfortunately will be relegated.

In Division 4, Junior 2 finished 6th and, in Division 5, Men’s 6th team finished 7th.

Turning to the Ladies, this season we continued with the experiment of 2 evenly matched teams in Division 1 and (as last season) the teams finished 3rd and 4th. Ladies 3rd team had a very successful season, winning Division 2 (losing just 1 match) and were also runners up in the Ladies League Cup.

Finally, thanks to the team Captains for their time and efforts in fulfilling the team fixtures – Liam Gutcher, Neil Mason, Mike Paul, Vinny Richards, Allan Curry, Warwick Davis, Dave North, Richard and Lesley Vitty and Emma Richards.
