Northern FC Squash Committee Meeting

Monday 15th May, 2017

Present: Clive Lucas, Julie Cornell, Sarah Bedford, Allan Curry, Roger Tames, Dave North, Wayne Easthaugh, Richard Vitty

Club Championships

There were 40 entrants to the main event, 8 Ladies, 6 racketball and 15 doubles pairs.

On behalf of the club, Clive expressed his thanks to the Tournament Director, Derek Collins.

It was felt that the format worked well, given the unforeseen clash with the Ladies County Final.

It was agreed to decide on a date for the 2018 Club championships at the September committee meeting, taking into account the junior calendar, county leagues and cups, school and bank holidays etc and publish the date as soon after the meeting as possible, to allow all members the opportunity to plan their schedules and commitments.

It was suggested that the doubles tournament be changed to an A and B event and that to ease congestion of the schedule, 1st round matches to start on the Sunday.

Presentation Night Planning

There were 69 people at the Presentation Evening which was considered to be very successful. A criticism was that the bar closed too early, this has been pursued with Gi and will not happen next year.

Northumbria Cup/Summer Leagues

The Ladies 3rd team won their County cup and the Men’s 2nd team were runners up.

The 2 Northern teams will shortly start playing summer league matches.

Junior Report

All courses remain full with a waiting list. The issue of a minority of parents being slow to pay course fees was discussed with agreement to take a more robust stance next season.

Executive/ finance committees

Allan Curry is to attend the Finance committee meeting on 16th May. Clive will attend the Executive committee meeting on 23rd May. Clive gave the committee a brief report on the accounts to March 2017.

Internal Leagues

There were no issues other than a drop off in the number of players, which is to be expected. There was a suggestion that the club run a junior league which will then feed into the main club leagues.

Maintenance

CL reported that Derek Collins will oversee the summer maintenance programme.

Any Other Business

Membership Renewal commenced on 1st of May.

Clive reported that it had been suggested that the 2018 presentation Evening be held at Northern in the McCracken Suite, and that he had advised that it was imperative that the date be set as soon as possible to ensure availability.

Clive proposed that Dave North represent the club on the county committee for which there was unanimous agreement. The County AGM will be held on 6th June 2017.

Ladies coaching- After a promising start, numbers have dwindled and there was a suggestion that moving the session to a Sunday afternoon could garner more interest.

The adult club night will continue until the end of May.
